Giving Back to the Smokies
The American Hiking Society will be holding the 16th annual National Trails Day on Saturday, June 7 this year. The American Hiking Society, with the help of local hiking clubs, federal agencies, municipal parks, retailers, land trusts, and many other businesses and organizations, are teaming up to preserve and protect our trails for future generations.
Organizations around the country are celebrating our trails by participating in educational programs, clean-up projects, trail restoration projects, workshops or by simply just going out and enjoying the wilderness.
What can you do? Friends of the Smokies and the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club are looking for volunteers. These two organizations will be leading several projects in the Smoky Mountains. Volunteers will be performing light maintenance and some trail upgrades in three general areas of Great Smoky MountainsNational Park.
